Here at Netflix, we have amazing work to do and a life to live. We function at our best when obstacles and distractions are eliminated. That’s why we’ve taken a flexible approach to how we work. Our offices are designed for collaboration and convenience; our technology infrastructure and equipment are meant to make things simple, intuitive, and fast. And our policies? They’re nearly nonexistent.

When it comes to your life, it’s not our place to dictate what things you should care about. We want to be a supporting player. We pay you top of your personal market and leave it to you to decide how to best allocate your money. You may decide to spend it on traveling the world or a gym membership, the latest technology, college tuition or caring for extended family, or any of a number of other things important to you. 

We follow a similar tack with our approach to benefits. We provide a core set, a set similar to what you’d find elsewhere. And we enhance them in a way that best reflects our Netflix culture. As you read through this site, you’ll note how we provide a healthcare allowance in most countries versus a % contribution to use towards the benefits most important to you, offer paid time off to care and bond with their new child, and leave it open what holidays to observe or when you take your vacation days. You have the freedom and responsibility to figure out what works best.

Time away works differently at Netflix. We don’t have a prescribed 9-to-5 workday, so it makes sense that we don’t have prescribed time off policies, either. 

When something’s being delivered or repaired, do what you need to do. When you’re sick, take the time to get better. The same goes if a child or partner is sick. Take care of them so your mind is clear and focused when you’re back at work. Just let others know where you are (we worry) and how you’re balancing work. 

When it’s time to celebrate a holiday or take a vacation with your family, go be with them or hide from them (we don’t judge). We don’t set a holiday and vacation schedule, so you can observe what’s important to you—including when your mind and body need a break. 



Time Off: Maternity/Paternity/Adoption

We recognize that one of the most special events in an individual’s life is the birth or adoption of a child. We offer generous paid time off to allow our employees to be present during this joyous time.


Salaried Employees
All salaried Netflix employees are provided paid time off to care and bond with their new child. 

How you take time off is up to you and your manager to decide. Depending on what works best for you and the business, you might take a chunk of time, intermittent time, or work part-time. Parental leave is meant to offer flexibility and meaningful time off with your family.

Netflix will ensure your pay equals 100% of your current salary as if your work was uninterrupted.

Hourly Employees

You are provided 16 weeks of paid time off to care for and bond with your new child. How you take time off is up to you and your manager to decide. Leaves of Absence
If you need an extended chunk of time away from work for your own illness, or to care for a family member, we will continue paying your salary for a period of time. Contact Employee Services to coordinate a leave or to discuss your situation.


Netflix Stock Option Program
We want our employees to have an opportunity to take part in Netflix’s success. Most companies mandate how your compensation is structured (base, bonus, and restricted stock), but at Netflix, we believe in guaranteed top-of-personal-market pay and providing employees with a choice in the degree to which they participate in equity investment and its related risks.
